Overall, while the decision to implement the new farm laws was economic, the one to repeal them appears political and electoral. So, out of the total 152 seats, BJP won 125 seats last time. In the same belt, the BJP had won only five seats in 2012. While Akhilesh's Samajwadi Party got only three seats, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party got just two. Similarly, the Terai belt has 42 assembly seats. This time, however, it was predicted that the party may only get less than a third of that. The BJP had won 88 seats last time - up from 38 in 2012. The Jat belt in western UP has 110 seats. Is that the case or was it that the government felt the farmers' movement could backfire in the assembly elections? Was the decision to repeal the laws taken keeping in mind the upcoming elections in UP? The PM said the farm laws have been withdrawn because he has not been able to convince "some farmers" that the government had brought the laws only for the welfare of the community, and with "sacred" intentions. Overall, close to 160 seats are likely to be affected in the state. There were reports that the farmer movement expanded to terai areas after the October 3 Lakhimpur Kheri incident, which claimed the lives of four farmers who were allegedly mowed down by vehicles in the convoy of Union Minister and BJP MP Ajay Kumar Mishra's son Ashish Mishra.

Still, the performances, especially those of Regina, Baby Vedhika and Harris Moosa (who appears as a considerate police officer) anchor it, and prevent it from totally sinking. In UP, the BJP was said to be losing ground in the western region. And, despite all this, when they do reach Chennai, he leaves her in front of a locked gate and makes his way, in the middle of the night, no less! Agreed, the film is based on a real-life incident but as a film, this feels less convincing. It is hard to believe that Mukund, who is trying to safeguard Meera by taking her to his parents’ place in Chennai, will spend 10 days at a remote village when he should be trying to get her there as soon as possible. The plot also goes haywire towards the end when Mukund’s secret is discovered, and the climax is logically shaky. Yes, the intention is to keep us guessing as to what has happened to Jeni but the present-day events play more in a rather predictable (Simran falls in love with Mukund, a cop tries to take advantage of a secret) and at times dull (much like Mukund, who never earns our sympathy) fashion that the flashback loses some of its intrigue. He takes a little too long to get into the back story and when he does get to it, he provides them in bits and pieces. The problem is director SS Srisaravanan’s leisurely style of narration that gives it a tele-film feel. The film seems like a 45-minute short film that has been stretched to feature length. However, despite its intentions, it succeeds only passably as a movie. Nirnayam wants to be a cautionary tale about how living beyond your means will destroy one’s happiness and puts its message across through the lives of a married couple, Mukundan and Jeni. A heated argument ends up in a catastrophe from which there might never be redemption. She tries to talk sense into him but he is not in a mood to accept his mistakes. Soon enough, his debts pile up and the loan sharks start harassing Jeni. Things are rosy at first but Mukund starts spending more and more, always justifying that he wants to give his wife a taste of all the things she has missed so far in life. He had to walk away from his home after his parents refused to accept an orphan as their daughter-in-law. Over flashbacks, we learn about Mukund and Jeni’s (Regina) marriage. They are helped by an amiable dhaba owner Simran (Saranya), who gives them a place to stay and a job for Mukund in her roadside eatery. The film takes place over a 10-day period when Mukundan (Vikram) and his daughter, Meera (Vedhika), are stranded in a remote village after the bike has a problem. Where are they going, and what has happened to mother? We then see the father and the now grown-up child going on a bike over a remote highway. A pregnant woman and expresses her wish to her husband that her child should never feel lonely, unlike her, an orphan.
